Sleep Out From Home Raises £40K

Thu 1st April 2021

Our amazing fans have raised over £40,000 for charity by sleeping out in unusual places around their home, helping to support homeless people living in Glasgow.

This season, the Foundation’s annual ‘Big Ibrox Sleep Outs’ had to be adapted due to COVID-19, but supporters continued their long-standing commitment to our projects with Glasgow City Mission and took to their gardens, cars, garages, balconies, baths and more to spend the night last December for our Sleep Out From Home event.

Thanks to their efforts braving the cold and discomfort, £40,000 was raised and split between the Foundation and Glasgow City Mission’s new Overnight Welcome Centre.

The Overnight Welcome Centre provided a safe, warm place to sleep for those who had no-where else to go at a time like no other, when help and support was needed more than ever due to the pandemic. The new centre stayed open 24/7 over the winter period, allowing staff to fast track guests into accommodation and offer additional help and support during the day.

Every £1,000 raised allowed Glasgow City Mission to open this vital centre for a day over the cold winter months – meaning fans funded 20 days of the centre!

Rangers Charity Foundation Director, Connal Cochrane, said: “We are in absolute awe of the generosity and commitment of our supporters.

“The Big Ibrox Sleep Outs have become one of our most popular events in recent years, raising over £210,000 for homeless charities before 2020. Although we wish we could have welcomed everyone to Ibrox as usual, we are extremely grateful for their support.

“Covid-19 has affected the lives of everyone in Scotland, but for those experiencing homelessness, it has been devastating.”

“We hope that, through this important donation, Glasgow City Mission has been able to change lives in our city.”

Glasgow City Mission’s Marketing and Fundraising Manager Jack Geddes said: “We at the Mission are astonished by the money raised by the fans who took part in the Big Sleep Out.”

“Thank you so much! Your efforts and generosity funded our Overnight Welcome Centre for 20 full days and helped save lives.”

Rangers Charity Foundation would like to thank Rangers FC kit sponsors, 32Red, for their generous support of the Big Ibrox Sleep Out From Home.
