Simply The Best Night In raises £59K

Tue 10th November 2020

Our amazing supporters raised thousands of pounds for the Foundation, helping to support initiatives across Glasgow, Scotland and the world, thanks to our inaugural ‘Simply The Best Night In’ event.

The virtual event brought together a whole host of famous faces, including Steven Gerrard, Walter Smith and Michael Mols – all streamed live from Ibrox into homes across the UK and further afield.

Guests were able to enjoy a night jampacked with entertainment, as host Emma Dodds took them through live interviews with ex-players, exclusive RangersTV features from the Manager, Steven Davis and Kemar Roofe, as well as music from Glasgow band Saint PHNX and singer Jodie Pollock.

Thanks to donations from fans, an auction, raffle and ticket sales, the Foundation raised an incredible £59,000. Every penny will go towards the Rangers Charity Foundation’s work as a force for good, reaching thousands of people each season across education, employability, health and wellbeing and diversity and inclusion projects, as well as via local, national and international charity partnerships.

Rangers Charity Foundation Director, Connal Cochrane, said:

“We cannot thank everyone enough for supporting our first Simply The Best Night In. Time and time again the Rangers Family blow us away with their generosity, and Saturday night was no different!”

“The event was created after our biggest fundraiser of the year, our annual Charity Ball, had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The team was determined to offer fans an exciting and engaging show from home instead, which might help them to temporarily forget about life’s current restrictions and have some fun.

“I’d also like to express our thanks to all guests, sponsors and partners who helped to make the night such a success, and of course the Club. We hope you all had Simply The Best Night In!”

The event was streamed live to Rangers fans across the world including in the UK, America, Australia, mainland Europe and Asia – many taking to Twitter to share their praise!

One said: “Had ‘Simply the Best’ night in with @RFC_Charity last night. Proud to be part of #RangersFamily fantastic amount raised. Great show with brilliant interviews and performances.”

Another added: “Fantastic, well done all involved, really enjoyed it and cheered me up at this difficult time listening to all the old stories and hearing from Stevie G and some current players too.”

“That’s it done, have to congratulate @RFC_Charity for trying something bold that challenges current conditions and delivers a positive result for the many causes they support. Great guests, music and auctions/raffle prizes which is what it’s all about. The Rangers family deliver!”

The Simply The Best Night In event was born from the need to adapt to unprecedented times, but was so successful it could become an annual fixture for the Foundation, which has been finding innovative ways to fundraise and engage with supporters during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We also launched ‘A Foundation From Home’ at the start of lockdown, which has been a huge success, encompassing a series of initiatives to help people during the pandemic.
