Rangers Charity Foundation Welcomes Local Senior Citizens to Ibrox for SPFL Festive Friends Christmas Lunch

Fri 6th December 2024

The Foundation has once again brought Christmas cheer, kindness and compassion to senior citizens in the local community by taking part in the SPFL Trust’s Festive Friends programme this year.

Foundation staff and volunteers welcomed participants to Ibrox today to enjoy a hot three-course Christmas lunch with a programme of entertainment. Ex-Rangers player Lee McCulloch also joined in the festive fun and had a chat with the guests.

The Foundation will also deliver Christmas hampers to anyone unable to attend this year.

This year, members of the local community from Wheatley Care Housing Association, The Preshal Trust, Riverside Hall Govan, Weekday Wow Factor & the Foundations’ Football Memories community programme will all came together at the stadium.

SPFL associated community trusts and clubs work with local partners across Scotland to identify older people who may be feeling lonely or isolated with the programme expected to support thousands of people this year.

Lee McCulloch said:

“I’ve enjoyed meeting our Festive Friends guests today and hearing their stories. They have been in great spirits.

As a former player and ambassador for the Club, I think it’s great the Rangers Charity Foundation has been hosting these events at Ibrox for eight years for the local community.”

Rachael Cosgrove, Charity Executive for the Rangers Charity Foundation, said:

“We are so pleased to be hosting senior citizens from the local community at Ibrox again this year for Christmas lunch and entertainment as part of the SPFL Trust’s Festive Friends programme.

We pride ourselves on being a Foundation for our local community and we know many people are struggling with the cost of living so it has been great to provide all this today at no cost to them and just see the smiles on their faces.”

Jean a guest of the Wheatley Group added:

“It’s always very nice to come along. The whole thing is just great.”

“The food is lovely and meeting Lee McCulloch today was nice too because I was able to get an autograph for my son. Even though he hasn’t lived in Glasgow for years, he’s always supported Rangers.

“The singer was very very good too. It’s a great wee crowd that come along to this and the atmosphere is always lovely.”
