£9K For St Andrew’s Hospice
Tue 19th February 2019
St Andrew’s Hospice, which is currently caring for Fernando Ricksen, will receive a donation of £9,000 from the Foundation as a result of the generous support of Rangers fans and former player Marco Negri.
The Foundation’s Race Night in solidarity with Fernando raised over £6,000 and was supported by Fernando’s former team mates Alex Rae and Marvin Andrews. It was a fantastic night, with an original shirt from Fernando’s Tribute match back in 2015 signed by the man himself being auctioned, as well as a host of other top Rangers memorabilia.
Marco Negri generously raffled his shirt from the recent Star Sixes event, signed by the rest of the world team including Jorg Albertz, Ronald De Boer and Jay Jay Okocha, and raised over £2,500.
St Andrew’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people living with life-limiting illnesses and was chosen by Fernando, who is too ill to travel home to Spain, due to the quality of support they offer. As a registered charity, services are provided free of charge and the Foundation was delighted to be able to support the charity’s amazing work in honour of Fernando.
Rangers Charity Foundation Director, Connal Cochrane, said: “Thank you to everyone who came along to our Race Night and the former players who have supported our fundraising for St Andrew’s Hospice.”
“Fernando has been a friend of the Foundation for many years and I saw first-hand the excellent care he is receiving at St Andrew’s Hospice when I visited him recently.
“The hospice has to raise thousands each week to provide specialist palliative care and support to patients and their families. The staff care for up to 120 patients each week, with a range of needs including symptom management, rehabilitation and end of life care.
“We are delighted to be able to show our affection for Fernando by supporting such a worthwhile cause.”
Anyone who was not able to attend the Race Night and would like to donate can still do so on our JustGiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/fernandor2.
