New Year New You? Make 2022 Your Year With FFIT!

Thu 6th January 2022

Many of us set fitness and weight loss goals at New Year. However, it’s not always easy to keep good intentions going – unless of course you’re part of our Football Fans in Training programme!

FFIT gives you the motivation to stay on track when working to achieve your health goals, and provides the knowledge and expert help you need to change your lifestyle for good, not just for January.

Long-term research has proved that FFIT participants not only lose weight on the course but mostly keep it off and maintain a healthier lifestyle months and years after the course has finished! It’s not surprising that FFIT is in fact Europe’s leading healthy lifestyle programme.

Our popular FFIT sessions are set to return to Ibrox at the end of the month, so if you want 2022 to be your year, sign up now!

All sessions will follow Scottish Government guidelines in relation to health and safety to help create a safe and welcoming environment for football fans to get back in action.

Open to both men and women via separate programmes, participants should be aged 35-65 with a waist of 38 inches or a belly size of 40 inches.

The 13-week programme, based at Ibrox, aims to help participants:

  • Increase knowledge of diet and nutrition
  • Improve lifestyle choices
  • Increase physical activity amongst participants
  • Reduce weight and waist measurements
  • Increase engagement in other physical activity

Course dates and times are as follows:

  • Men’s course, Monday 5-7 pm, starting 31 January
  • Women’s course Tuesday 5-7 pm, starting 1 February
  • Men’s course, Friday 6-8 pm, starting 4 Feb

The power of FFIT really is something special – just ask some of our success stories! On our most recent course, Darren Black and William Durham lost 4.2 stone and 25cm from their waist between them, while Michael King lost 2.31 stone and 19cm from his waist.

Andrew Rooney, who was prevented from completing a previous FFIT course owing to lockdown, completed the programme this time around and has lost a staggering 6 ½ stone from the start of his first course!

Previous success stories also include Susan Ramsay, Tom Buchan, Iain Barnes and Scot Smart, and you can read about their journey in more detail by clicking on the links to their stories.

Iain topped the scales at 21 stone before he took the plunge and signed up.  Five months on, he had lost an incredible 4.5 stone and felt amazing!

Scot Smart also turned his life around thanks to FFIT, commenting: “The course had such an impact on my life that I just want to share that and hopefully inspire someone.”

“The peer support and motivation from the coaches was key. The programme was the catalyst for me improving my life.”

“I’d like to wish each and every participant signing up now the best of luck – you will have the support you need to change your life for the better.”

The programme was created by the SPFL Trust in partnership with the University of Glasgow and is funded in Scotland by the Scottish Government.

Research has determined that the power of being ‘in your own club’ (for example, being behind the scenes, by the pitch, etc) is a strong motivating factor, and results it a very much higher level of programme ‘completers’.
