NARSA Urban ‘Peak to Peak’ Challenge

Tue 14th January 2020

Our NARSA Challenge this year is an alternative ‘Peak to Peak’ challenge taking in the iconic sights of San Francisco on Saturday 6 June at 1.30pm!

Starting in Union Square Downtown, participants will hike to Telegraph Hill and climb the 400 stairs to Coit Tower, where they can enjoy a stunning 360 degree view of San Francisco Bay.

After descending Telegraph Hill, participants hike to Lombard Street, known as the most crooked street in the world, where they will climb the second peak – 250 stairs to the top of San Francisco’s most famous street. The top of Lombard Street affords breath-taking views of Pier 39 and beyond.

From there we will walk back to Union Square to complete the alternative “Peak to Peak” Challenge. The hike route will also take in other well-known San Francisco sights such as China Town, Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Warf.

The hike should take around 2 hours and is approximately 3.5 miles in distance with some incline in addition to the stair climbs already described, and therefore moderate fitness is recommended.

There is no charge to take part in this challenge, although a small charge may be required on the day to use elevator at Coit Tower should participants decide to ascend.

All those who take part and raise over £100/$100 for the Foundation will be invited to an exclusive reception at Ibrox later in the year to be presented with a True Blue Hero medal and pin badge by a Rangers first team player. Those who are unable to attend will be sent their medal and pin badge along with a personal thank you letter from a player.

The Rangers Charity Foundation would be delighted if participants aimed to raise a minimum of £50/$50 from the challenge to help support our work making a difference on behalf of the Rangers Family. The money raised from this event will help the Foundation support our amazing charity partners including Unicef, Children 1st, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and armed forces charities, as well as our important work in the local community.

This year’s challenge is once again being organised by volunteer Karen Watson, who has arranged all the previous, hugely successful NARSA Challenge events, including the Zip the Strip, Loyal Luge and CN Tower Edgewalk.

To sign up, you can email Karen on karenwatson926@gmail.com, who can supply you with sponsor forms and information on how to set up a JustGiving page.

Thank you to everyone at NARSA who have been so supportive of the Foundation and were recently honoured on the pitch at Ibrox for raising over £40,000 since 2014 via these challenges and other activities.

Special thanks must go to Karen Watson for her ongoing commitment and enthusiasm – she is a truly incredible fundraiser and volunteer for the Foundation!
