MP visits Joy of Moving

Tue 16th April 2019

School children at St Marnock’s Primary School enjoyed a visit from Christopher Stephens MP today, as part of their session with the Rangers Charity Foundation.

Stephens, who represents the Glasgow South West Constituency, went along to the Joy of Moving project to see how the children and teachers were benefitting from the health and wellbeing programme.

The ‘Joy of Moving’ programme works with 1,800 kids aged 9-10 years in schools across the city, to encourage physical activity and promote a healthy diet. The children learn about nutrition and take part in football sessions with Rangers Charity Foundation coaches.

Christopher Stephens MP said: “I’ve been very impressed with the Joy of Moving project today – it’s good to see the Rangers Charity Foundation and the SPFL Trust providing education to young pupils.

“I think it’s important that young people know about exercise and diet and I’m sure that it will be a successful programme over the next six weeks.

“I’ve also been very impressed with the work of the Rangers Charity Foundation generally. What they’ve done for young people, helping to get people intowork, support for veterans, these are large parts of the community and I think it’s important that football clubs are seen as an active part of that and not have a distant relationship.

“It’s important that football clubs keep that up and the Rangers Charity Foundation is an excellent model for that.”

Rangers Charity Foundation’s Senior Community Executive, Jordan Boyd, said: ““It was great to have Christopher Stephens down at the school to see the Joy of Moving progamme in action.

“Joy of Moving is a six week course we run through the school term and it really focuses on educating the students and helping them to build their knowledge and form positive habits that will stand them in good stead for their entire lives. We want to help create healthier communities for the future, and we believe projects like this really work in achieving that.

“Thank you to the SPFL Trust and Ferrero for their support of Joy of Moving.”
