Festive Cheer at our Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch

Thu 13th December 2018

Older people from community groups in Govan enjoyed a special Christmas celebration at Ibrox this week, thanks to the Rangers Charity Foundation.

Over 80 guests from local care homes, sheltered housing and other organisations, were invited along for a festive drink and meal, as well as entertainment from Govan High School’s choir and band.

Former Rangers Legends Willie Henderson, Derek Johnstone and Mark Hateley also spent time with the special guests; serving drinks, taking photos and enjoying merry conversation.

Mark Hateley said: “Christmas is always a special time, especially for the older generation to get together and it’s great to hear them all share stories.

“It’s been a great turnout! This is an annual event for us and the guests come every year – new and familiar faces! It’s always a great thing to see and we hope that everyone has had a wonderful time.”

The lunch is supported by the SPFL Trust’s ‘Festive Friends’ initiative and forms part of the Foundation’s wider Christmas programme, which include a kids’ Christmas party and a visit to the Royal Hospital for Children with the Rangers First Team, where the Foundation will make a £10,000 donation to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

The Foundation would like to thank Govan High School’s Choir and Band and also the SPFL Trust’s Festive Friends initiative, which has generously supported our Old Folks Christmas Lunch.
