Dream Day for Andrew and Chris

Thu 28th February 2019

Our recent Dream Fund matchday experience created some wonderful memories for two special Rangers fans, Andrew Kennedy and Chris Hunter who enjoyed an amazing day at hospitality with family and friends and met some Rangers legends and current players.

Season ticket holder Andrew was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in March 2017 and has since raised over £70,000 for MND Scotland and been part of an MND research programme.

Andrew loved attending games with his brother and friends, as well as travelling abroad to follow Rangers and Scotland, but sadly now relies on a ventilator 24 hours a day.

His wife Margaret explained: “He has had many friends and family come to the house to watch games with him as it was extremely difficult to manage the logistics of seeing matches live as the condition progresses.

“Our Daughter Lynsay discovered the Rangers Charity Foundation which led to my nomination to allow Andy to have the experience of watching a live match from Ibrox in a comfortable indoor environment.”

“It was a great surprise to receive confirmation 2 days later that Rangers would make this happen, including a visit to the Trophy Room and meeting a first team player.

“Nacho Novo, who had visited Andy at our home in December, noticed him when we arrived and spent some time with him which was fantastic.  He is such a great character and Andy is very fond of him.

“Whilst in the Trophy Room Derek Johnstone, another hero of Andy’s, also spent some time with him.  We also met Allan McGregor, another of Andy’s heroes.

“All the staff from stewards, reception staff, Rachael and Linda were fantastic and made the day such a special experience and ensured everything ran smoothly from start to finish.”

“We can’t thank you enough for the fantastic day. Meeting a current team player and legends made him feel so special.  He hasn’t been so well this week and talking about the event is really cheering him up.”

Father of two Chris Hunter was diagnosed with a brain tumour 10 years ago which he recovered from, but sadly his cancer returned recently and his cousin Lorna thought a Dream Fund day was just the thing to try and lift his spirits.

Lorna wrote: “It has been a very difficult year for Chris and his family, which is why I am nominating him. Chris really deserves a break, and getting to meet the team he has supported all his life would be a dream come true.”

It certainly was a great day for Chris and his family.  He commented: “I just wanted to say what a fantastic day we had in the Symon Suite for our Dream Fund Day.  The food was excellent and we were well taken care off.

“It also helped Willie Johnston and Colin Stein sat with us throughout the game!  My little girl loved the experience as it was her first time at Ibrox.”

We were delighted to arrange this special day for Chris and Andrew, thanks to the generosity of our supporters who have backed our Dream Fund!
