Academy spreads Christmas cheer at Children’s Hospital
Mon 2nd December 2019
Members of the Rangers Development squad joined Foundation staff and volunteers on Friday 29 Nov, to help out at the Royal Hospital For Children hanging Christmas decorations throughout the wards.
The Foundation is supporting Christmas activities for the children via our partnership with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, and it was fantastic to see the boost the festive touches gave to kids already looking forward to Santa’s visit!
The first team squad will also make their regular visit to the hospital in December to meet the children, their families and staff and give out goodie bags. Our backing of this wonderful cause really does come from the heart and everyone was delighted to give up their time to decorate the hospital.
Head of Rangers Academy Craig Mulholland commented, “We are delighted that our young players had the opportunity to assist the hospital by putting up the decorations, which may make the Christmas of the kids who will be spending time in hospital over the festive period a little bit brighter.
“A big part of our culture at the Rangers Academy is to ensure we produce good people as well as good footballers and it’s important that they have an awareness oftheir wider community.
“We aim to develop our young players in line with the values and traditions of our Club so it is fantastic that we can support the excellent work of our Charity Foundation. I know the players very much enjoyed taking part.”
For season 2019/20, the Foundation is aiming to raise £10,000, which will fund the ‘MediCinema’ in the build up to Christmas.
The 47 seated MediCinema at the Hospital is the only one of its kind in Scotland and allows families the chance to spend precious time together enjoying one of life’s simple pleasures – the excitement of going to the cinema.
The space even accommodates hospital beds so that no child misses out. Young patients and their families can enjoy the latest cinema releases, and forget about the worry of their hospital stay through the magic of the movies. The MediCinema helps reduce boredom and isolation for children in Hospital and can greatly improve wellbeing.
