Teams Brave The Rain For Walking Football Festival At Ibrox Community Complex
Wed 11th October 2023
The Foundation was pleased to host it’s third Walking Football Festival at the Ibrox Community Complex (ICC) last weekend.
Participants from several teams bravely faced the weather to travel to Glasgow and take part in the matches. The tournament was closely contested with three teams finishing level on points, but Rangers Red emerged as the victors after a 2-1 victory in the final.
All of the players were welcomed inside the ICC following the matches where they had a bite to eat and were able to have a hot drink.
Our Walking Football programme is for anyone aged 50 and over is a great way to get more active and enjoy the social aspects that being part of a club can deliver.
Walking Football is a fast-growing version of the sport which is non-contact and allows participants to play the game they love without the same risk of injury or level of exertion, whilst still boosting fitness.
Community Programmes Manager, Jordan, Boyd, spoke about the tournament and reflected on the impact of Walking Football.
He said: “It’s a credit to how much people love taking part in our walking football festival concept that we were able to play despite the weather. It’s been another fantastic event played in great sprit and we are now looking forward to the final event of the project.”
“Our Walking Football programme continues to be extremely popular and it’s excellent to see participants continue to attend and encourage others to come along as well.”
As part of our partnership with the European Football Development Network (EFDN), our Walking Football programme was launched in 2022 offering people over the age of 50 the chance to take part in a free weekly Walking Football sessions at the Ibrox Community Complex (across the road from Ibrox) on Thursdays at 11am.
