Madrid Success for Govan High

Pupils from local school Govan High enjoyed an amazing football trip to Madrid this summer thanks to support from a number of local organisations, including the Rangers Charity Foundation.
Twenty four pupils and 3 members of staff were part of the trip, which included taking in a La Liga Match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and training at Real Madrid’s Academy.
The pupils were treated to six fantastic goals from Real Madrid in the match against Celta Vigo and were mesmerised by the iconic stadium. The match tickets were paid for with money fundraised by pupils and staff in the lead up to the trip, with the Rangers Charity Foundation helping out with prizes for their fundraising activities.
The pupils also enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of Santiago Bernabeu, seeing the trophy room, changing rooms and museum. They also got the chance to be photographed with the European Cup and learned more about the history of Real Madrid Football Club.
The trip also included training at the Real Madrid Academy and a game against Spanish boys side Fuente del Saz. The pupils were all proud to wear their School of Football kit, which they received as part of the School of Football programme run in Govan High by the Rangers Charity Foundation.
The boys met former Real Madrid player Fernando Morientes and enjoyed the coaching sessions and hearing about the Real Madrid philosophy of football. They even caught a glimpse of Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos working on a different pitch!
The Rangers Charity Foundation has a very close relationship with Govan High and recently based a Community Hub Officer at the School, working in partnership with staff and pupils to help raise attainment across all year groups. The Foundation also runs the School of Football programme daily in the school.

“The development tour was a once in a lifetime experience for our pupils and it wouldn’t have happened without help from parents and staff. In addition we would like to say a huge thank you to a number of partnerships who have supported the success of this tour – SFA West Region, the Rangers Charity Foundation, Structured House Group and Nixon Consultants and of course the pupils who were a credit to Govan High School.”
