Foundation donates £10,000 to Children’s Hospital
Mon 17th December 2018
The Rangers First Team Squad paid a festive visit to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow today (Monday 17 December 2018) and handed over a donation of £10,000 from the Rangers Charity Foundation.
The donation has funded decorations for the wards to help bring some Christmas magic to the hospital and is also purchasing adapted car seats, to help children with specialist plaster casts get home safely and to their hospital appointments.
The first team squad chatted with children, parents and staff, signed autographs and handed out teddy bears on the wards. Today’s visit follows the recent ‘Decoration Day’ where the Reserves and Women’s squads together with Club and Foundation staff and volunteers helped to make the hospital look festive.
Rangers Captain, James Tavernier, commented: “The team visit to the hospital is always a highlight and it was great today to spend time with the kids, their parents and some of the staff. Christmas can be a really exciting time of years for children, and we really enjoyed handing out the teddies and having a chat with the kids.
“On behalf of everyone at Rangers Football Club and the Rangers Charity Foundation, we would like to wish everyone at the hospital a Merry Christmas.”
Connal Cochrane, Director of the Rangers Charity Foundation said: “We have a very special relationship with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, going back to when the Foundation was first established in 2002. Over the years, we have donated cash, toys and equipment, as well as supporting Christmas activities and organising special visits and treats for the children.
“The car seats we are funding this year are an important addition to the support offered to patients, as many children with hip problems can be in casts for 9-12 months, so the car seats will make a real difference to their quality of life and ability to get to school and nursery.
“I’d like to thank the Rangers squad for coming along today, the young players, women’s team and our volunteers for hanging the decorations and of course our supporters, whose commitment and generosity have made this donation possible.”
Kirsten Sinclair, Chief Operating Officer at Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity said: “Being in hospital at Christmas time can be very difficult for our young patients, but thanks to today’s visit there was plenty of festive cheer on the wards.
“We’d like to thank everyone at the Rangers Charity Foundation and Rangers Football Club for their continued support and generosity throughout the year, which helps us ensure that children and their families have the best possible care and experience at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children.”
