Supporters raise over £20,000 at the Ibrox Stair Challenge!

Mon 9th September 2019

Over 150 people took part in the ‘Ibrox Stair Challenge’ on Saturday (7th September), raising over £20,000 in aid of the Rangers Charity Foundation.

The inaugural event challenged supporters to climb the stairs of all four stands at Ibrox – the equivalent of walking up and down the Empire State Building – before cross the finish line on the famous marble staircase.

Rangers FC legend, Mark Hateley, was on hand to present everyone who took part in the event with a special certificate and refreshments in the Members Lounge.

Kim Scott completed the challenge with a group of friends. She said: “It was amazing, absolutely amazing – I’m exhausted but feeling good!

“I wanted to sign-up because I come here on a Tuesday night to train with the Foundation’s coaches and a bunch of girls, so we wanted to all come together and give back!

“My favourite part was definitely at the start when everyone was encouraging you – and meeting Mark at the end was just fantastic!”

John, who used the Ibrox Stair Challenge to mark his 40th birthday, added: “It was good fun today – I’m usually a cyclist so it was a nice change. I don’t feel too bad now but definitely ready for some lunch!

“For me, the best part was when I reached the top of the Broomloan stand – I used to have a season ticket up there, so it was nice to be back.

“I just happened to see that the event was on my birthday and I’ve never done anything for the Rangers Charity Foundation before, so I thought I’d put the two together and celebrate turning 40 at one of my most favourite places in the world, all in aid of a good cause.

“It was also a nice surprise to see that the Foundation had displayed a special birthday message on the screens for me!”

Linda Shields, Senior Charity & Finance Executive, added: “What a way to kick-start our fundraising events for this season!

“We were blown away by the amount of people who gave up their Saturday morning to push themselves for charity. Everyone was full of positive energy and we’d like to thank all who took part, or donated.

“Every penny raised will help us continue to act as a force for good on behalf of the Rangers Family – including our community programmes, which will support over 10,500 people this season.”
