SHIELDING  SUPPORT

  • Shielding will pause from 01.08.20 and individuals who have been shielding can now follow the same guidance as the rest of Scotland.  Those people affected will receive a letter about the pause in shielding and outlining the updated guidance.
  • The weekly grocery boxes will stop as of 31.07.20
  • The Scotland-wide helpline number is still in operation (0800 111 4000)
  • People will still remain on a shielding list and will receive updates through the SMS Shielding Service

NB  This is subject to change should the infection rate rise again

Some mutual aid groups are reviewing their support now that shielding has ended

  • G53 Together – collection of projects offering support during COVID-19 (http://g53together.scot/).  To contact, phone the community helpline (0141 378 8541)

  • Viral Kindness Scotland – request help online (https://www.viralkindness.scot/) or phone (0800 054 2282).  They are also on Facebook and Twitter
  • Red Cross – corona virus helpline for people who feel lonely, worried or can’t get out for essential supplies (0808 196 3651)
  • Southside Self Isolation Supporters – no longer accepting requests for support as demand has dropped but information about organisations is available on their Facebook page or by email (southsidesishelpers@gmail.com)

FOOD

  • Food bank – operating in 3 locations in South West (details at end of document)
  • Preshal Trust – providing hot food for collection on weekdays, 11am to 3pm and food parcels by arrangement.  Details on social media and by phoning (0141 445 3689). 
  • Govan HELP Food Bank – parcels available for collection every Wednesday between 12.30pm and 2.00pm from the Pearce Institute.  Request by email before 6pm on a Tuesday evening (foodbank@govanhelp.org)
  • Coming Home Centre – the Centre is closed but discussion are taking place about plans to re-open the Centre. Details on their Facebook page.
  • Grub Hub/Moogety Gardens – meal delivery service is winding down now that shielding has been suspended but food available from Food for Good Meals Programme (see below).  Food bags available too.
  • Food for Good Meals Programme – food available for collection at Elderpark Community Centre on Wednesdays, 6pm to 7.30pm & Saturdays, 2pm to 4pm. 
  • Community Meal/Moogety – no date for community meal to restart however every Saturday, as of 08.08.20, soup and home-made bread will be available in the playground behind Elderpark Community Centre from 1pm-2pm. Tables and chairs will be provided and numbers will be limited to maintain social distancing. If the weather is bad and people unable to sit outside, soup can be collected from the main entrance to the Centre.
  • Dig-In Community Greengrocer, Crossloan Rd – home delivery service in Govan. Available until end of August. Orders taken by phone (0141 440 1097)
  • Glasgow City Mission – now providing pre-loaded Farmfoods’ vouchers with enough credit to buy a week’s shopping.  Details on their Facebook page.
  • Gilded Lily – delivering food packs to women in Govan every Monday and Tuesday (general.gildedlily@outlook.com)
  • Refuweegee – delivering emergency support packs and fruit and veg boxes to individuals and families across the city. See social media pages for details.

  • Assistance from Glasgow Life for individuals to make a new claim for Universal Credit is now only available by phone (0808 169 9901).

EMPLOYABILITY

  • G51 Literacy Support Service – online, interactive literacy support and advice for people who are looking for help with CVs and job applications.  Must be resident in the G51 postcode.  Referrals to Shaun Pearce at Glasgow Life: (shaun.pearce@glasgowlife.org.uk)
  • G51 Journey 2 English course – interactive, online course with 4 weeks online support for ESOL learners.  The course is aimed at pre-intermediate and intermediate learners in the G51 postcode.  Referrals to Shaun Pearce at Glasgow Life (shaun.pearce@glasgowlife.org.uk)

LOCAL

  • Make, Do & Grow –- online craft sessions and the shop will be open at limited times.  Details on their website (https://www.makedogrow.co.uk/lockdown/) and social media
  • Govan HELP – closed for drop-ins but support available remotely.  Details on Facebook and Twitter
  • Grub Hub/Moogety Gardens – groups and community meal but weekly afternoon teas are taking place on a Wednesday (weather permitting).  Places must be booked in advance (anne@urbanroots.org.uk) and priority is given to elderly and isolated
  • Plantation Productions – are providing free, weekly craft packs until end of August https://bit.ly/3a9f487 and online blog site targeted specifically for the Creative Steps groups with creative activities and suggestions for keeping well (https://www.creativesteps.org.uk)
  • Kinning Park Complex – community response team for G51 & G41 postcodes continuing just now with discussions about how to re-open the KPCafe in Clyde Hall (https://www.kinningparkcomplex.org/a-ok).  They also have funding to support people with help towards the cost of caring for pets.  Details of the areas covered on their Facebook page.
  • Gilded Lily – running online weekly craft and sewing workshops on Zoom. Get in touch by email (general.gildedlily@outlook.com) or through their social media pages to book a place and to have your craft pack delivered in time for the workshop.
  • Govan Community Project – continuing to provide food distribution and services online. Access support by phone (0141 445 3718), email (home@govancommunityproject.org.uk) or via their social media pages.
  • Gift Tech – 5 x free PCs per week available for people living in Govan with possibility of dongle and data.  Available for collection from The Hub, 901 Govan Road every Wednesday from 11.30am to 3.00pm.  Referrals to Rory Brown with name of person and summary of how PC will benefit them during COVID-19 (rory.brown@govanha.org.uk).  NB PC must be collected by individual.
  • Starter Packs – deliveries have resumed and are accepting referrals by email (administrator@starterpacks.org.uk).  Packs include bedding, pots and kitchenware and household cleaning materials.  Donations need to be pre-arranged (07825412864)
  • Magpie’s Nest & Magpie’s Eye – now open with social distancing in place and donation drop-off is by appointment only (07825412864)
  • Maslow’s Community Shop – unable to accept any more donations currently.  Updates and useful information on their social media pages.

If you are using this please do the following:

  1. Send it BEFORE we open on the day.  We don’t have the resources to check email during opening times.
  2. Give us the following information:
  3. Name of the person referred.
  4. Their address – including post code – (and phone number).The number of adults and children in the household.
  5. The age and size of any of these children who are in nappies.  If we have received any donations of that size of nappy we will make them available.
  6. The reason for the referral.
  7. The “voucher” number.  Even if you are not using a paper voucher please use the number and cancel the paper voucher.  If we are going down this route then we may issue you with a batch of “vouchers” which is the log sheet which accompanies them through the post.  Each email referral must have a unique and valid number on it.

Agencies can request a list of voucher numbers if they don’t have access to paper vouchers so that they can email referrals.
