Foundation Donates £12,500 to UNICEF’s Global Covid-19 Vaccination Efforts
Fri 30th April 2021
This week is World Immunisation Week and the Rangers Charity Foundation is proud to announce a £12,500 donation to the UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) helping to support the biggest vaccine drive in history. The donation will contribute towards UNICEF’s mission to support the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines within countries globally. World Immunisation Week – celebrated every year in the last week of April – aims to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have devastating impacts on everyone around the world, vaccines present a key opportunity to ending this global crisis. UNICEF, using the agency’s extensive knowledge and infrastructure, is taking a lead role in delivering COVID-19 vaccines to 92 low- and middle-income countries on behalf of the COVAX Facility, helping to ensure equitable access around the world, so everyone can be protected; and can get back to the things and people we love.
Our donation could help deliver 9,268 vaccine doses to health workers in countries like Malawi.
Connal Cochrane, Rangers Charity Foundation Director said:
“ We are immensely proud of our long-standing partnership with UNICEF whose global reach has been invaluable in this unprecedented global pandemic. We know we are fortunate to live in a country where the majority of adults have now been offered their first vaccination but things will only return to being more ‘normal’ when that is the case in many more countries.
“I would like to thank all of our supporters who take on personal challenges, volunteer, donate and do so much to help all the charities we support every season. It is thanks to their commitment that we have been able to help UNICEF make sure health workers are vaccinated all over the world.”
Leisha Braithwaite, Head of Corporate Partnerships, of UNICEF UK said:
‘”COVID-19 is a devastating reminder of how destructive the spread of a disease can become. At UNICEF, we believe in the incredible power of vaccines and have helped protect over half of the world’s children with life-saving vaccines.
This year, thanks to our supporters such as the Rangers Charity Foundation’s personal challengers, volunteers, donors and teams, we are helping deliver COVID-19 vaccines to people who need them most all over the world. Together, we can deliver the world’s largest vaccination campaign, in record time, and build a brighter future for the world’s children.”
The Foundation has worked with UNICEF – the world’s leading child rights organisation – since 2008, donating over £725,000 in that period to support a variety of causes including education, health and emergency relief to help the agency reach over 2 million children around the world. Since season 2019/20, the Foundation has redirected its funding to support UNICEF’s response to ongoing issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, such as PPE and vaccine shortages in low- and middle-income countries.
