UNICEF Emergency Appeal – Earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria
Fri 10th February 2023
TÜRKIYE internationalist Ridvan has today called on the Rangers support to give what they can to the UNICEF Emergency Appeal following the devastating earthquakes and aftershocks in his homeland and in Syria.
For almost 15 years, big-hearted Rangers supporters, through the Rangers Charity Foundation’s successful partnership, have contributed hundreds of thousands of pounds to UNICEF, with the Foundation keen to support this latest appeal with another generous donation to support UNICEF’s work for children affected by the major earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.
This follows a donation from the Foundation to UNICEF UK’s Pakistan Floods Appeal in November.
Donations to UNICEF’s Emergency Appeal go directly to the frontline and will contribute towards essential medical supplies, access to safe water, protecting vulnerable and separated children and assessing and mobilising resources for the medium-term humanitarian need.
Over 22,000 people are known to have died in the tragedy so far, and Gers’ full-back Ridvan is hopeful his new Rangers family in Scotland will be able to assist.
He said: “The people of my country have suffered awful earthquakes this week and we all feel and share their pain.
“I have heard so much about the amazing generosity of the Rangers support, and I am hopeful that they can give even a small amount to help.”
Rangers Charity Foundation Chief Executive, Connal Cochrane, continued:
“The Foundation has worked with UNICEF, the world’s leading children’s charity, since 2008, donating more than £750,000 in that period to support a variety of causes including education, health and emergency relief and reaching over 2 million children and their families.
We hope we can bring further awareness to the terrible situation facing Turkish and Syrian people affected by this devastating earthquake and our thoughts are with them at this terrible time.”
