Volunteers help to keep Ibrox beautiful

Mon 30th October 2017

A group of Rangers fans got into the community spirit on Sunday to help clean-up some of the streets around Ibrox.

Organised by the Rangers Charity Foundation a dozen volunteers along with Foundation staff spent part of the morning and early afternoon picking up litter that had been discarded along the likes of Edmiston Drive, Paisley Road West and Ibrox Terrace.

Together the team, which was made up of individuals, friends and families, collected 16 bags of rubbish.

Karen Mathie, Senior Charity Executive at the Rangers Charity Foundation, said: “Thank you to everyone who came along and lent a hand. It was great to meet so many friendly people who care about the Ibrox area and were willing to give up some of their Sunday to help us make a difference in our community.

“Sunday’s clean-up event was the first in a series of regular clean-up events the Foundation is organising. The next event will take place on Sunday 12th November and anyone who wants to take part would be more than welcome to join us.”

If you have some time to spare on 12 November then join the Foundation and its volunteers at the entrance to Argyle House (situated at the back of the Sandy Jardine Stand) at 11am before heading out together for an hour or so.

Once finished everyone will be invited back to Ibrox for some well-deserved refreshments.

No experience is necessary and all equipment will be provided – volunteers should wrap up warm and bring their own waterproof jacket.

We are working together with Community Safety Glasgow to arrange the clean ups which are suitable for people of all ages, although anyone under the age of 16 who volunteers will need to be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.

The events will count towards the 25 hour target set by the Foundation for volunteers who wish to become True Blue Hero volunteers

Each person who volunteers 25 hours of their time or more to any of our designated volunteering projects is recognised as a True Blue Hero in the same way as those who fundraise £100 or more for us by taking on a personal challenge.  This means they will be invited along to an exclusive reception at Ibrox to be presented with a True Blue Hero medal and pin badge by a First Team player on completion of their 25 hours volunteering.

To sign up to take part in our next clean-up event or for more information email the Foundation at rangerscharity@rangers.co.uk or call 0141 580 8775.
