Urgent Food Bank Appeal

Tue 28th November 2017

The Rangers Charity Foundation is making an urgent appeal to fans to help support our local food banks by bringing some non-perishable food items to our home match on Saturday 9 December against Ross County at Ibrox.

Stocks at local food banks at both Hillington Park Parish Church and Ibrox Parish Church are extremely low, and with Christmas coming, demand is sure to be higher than ever.

The main food bank centre at Ibrox Parish Church has been regularly supported in the past by the Foundation and our supporters but help is once again urgently required.

The Foundation has organised a food collection point near to the Megastore in the lead up to kick-off where volunteers will collect donations from fans.

The Food Bank welcomes all kinds of non-perishable food items but would be particularly pleased to receive donations of UHT milk, tinned meat, fish and vegetables, toiletries and selection boxes.  A full list of suggested items can be found below.

Claire McCunnie from the Ibrox Parish Church centre commented, “Our referrals are up 54% from the same time last year and we expect it to get even busier over Christmas.

“With the weather getting worse, people will be having to make the decision to ‘heat or eat’, and if they heat their homes many will have to come to the food bank for emergency food parcels.

“Rangers supporters have been so generous in the past and we are so grateful for anything fans can bring along to help make someone’s Christmas a little better.”

Connal Cochrane, Director of the Rangers Charity Foundation added, “We were overwhelmed last season by the amount of food donated at our matchday collection and hope our fans will once again show their generous spirit and bring along a few groceries that can help replenish the food bank’s empty shelves.”

If you would like to help but are not attending the game we will accept food donations to the Foundation offices at Argyle House, Ibrox Stadium during office hours between now and 5pm on Friday 8th December.  If you have any questions please contact the Foundation on 0141 580 8775 or e-mail rangerscharity@rangers.co.uk
