Rangers fans are getting fit with the Foundation

Mon 26th June 2017

Fans on the Rangers Charity Foundation’s latest Football Fans in Training courses have lost an incredible 59.5 stones.

The hard work has clearly paid off for the 65 men and women who took part on the 12-week course as they also lost an amazing 78 inches between them from their waists.

Split into male and female groups the fans were given an initial health check before attending weekly physical activity and education sessions led by the Foundation’s coaches at Ibrox.

The course covered lifestyle issues such as diet and healthy eating, motivation and wellbeing, alcohol awareness, weight management and physical activity.

One of the most successful participants in terms of weight loss was 58 year old Lorraine McNamara who combined the Foundation’s training course with Slimming World and lost a pound short of four stone after completely changing her eating habits.

In the men’s group Alan Brown lost 3st 9lbs and 7.8 inches from his waist and importantly succeeded in lowering his blood pressure.

Both Lorraine and Alan, along with many of the other participants, went on to complete a 5km run around the stadium at the end of the course.

John Joyce, Foundation community coach, is delighted with the results. He said: “There are so many success stories of people changing their lives for the better from our latest courses.

“For me the real success of the programme is not only the continued amount of participants who go away achieving their own individual weight loss goals but also those who go away feeling good about themselves.”

Supported by the SPFL Trust, the Rangers Charity Foundation has been running Football Fans in Training courses since 2014.

Courses are for men or women who either have a BMI of 27 or over, a belly bigger than 99cm or a trouser waist size of at least 37 inches.

Meanwhile, fans (pictured above) who previously took part on the course represented Rangers in the fourth annual SPFL Trust Football Fans in Training tournament held at Stirling University at the weekend.

Finishing second in their group the men went on to win their play-off match and finished third overall!
