Players Fundraising Boost For Foundation This Christmas

Tue 6th December 2016

The Rangers first team squad has made a generous donation to the Foundation to help with a range of community initiatives over the Christmas period, including an old folks’ lunch at Ibrox for local pensioners and toys and games for the NSPCC in Govan.

Captain Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller co-ordinated the donation on behalf of the team and they are delighted with the range of projects the players are able to support over the festive period.

Lee commented, “It’s been a pleasure for us to help the Foundation do so much good in the community this Christmas.

“We’re looking forward to going along to the children’s hospital later in December and it’s great to know we have contributed to all the fun Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity has planned to make the kids’ stay in hospital more bearable over the Christmas period.

“We’re also delighted to be able to help the NSPCC too and buy presents for children who might otherwise receive very little for Christmas, and to fund the lunch for local pensioners and Tickets For Good.

The Foundation is doing some fantastic work and as a group of players we are committed to doing whatever we can for this great cause and continuing our fundraising efforts so that we can make more donations In the future”

The players’ donation is paying for a special Christmas lunch at the Stadium for over 70 older people from local community groups which will include a festive drink and meal, a Christmas gift and entertainment from Govan High School’s choir and band.

Carers, homeless people, veterans and young people will also have the chance to attend a game at Ibrox thanks to the players’ purchase of 100 ‘Tickets For Good’, which not only raise funds for the Foundation but provide match tickets for a variety of local worthwhile causes.

The player’s generous donation will also purchase toys and games for kids in Govan and Ibrox via the NSPCC, as well as Christmas food parcels for their families, ensuring they have a brighter Christmas than would otherwise have been possible.

Part of the players’ donation will also go towards the Foundation’s pledge to raise £10,000 for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.  The donation is funding Christmas decorations and activities on the wards as well as an important piece of equipment to help young cancer patients.

Foundation Director Connal Cochrane commented, “It’s fantastic that Lee and the players have been so generous and allowed us to expand our Christmas initiatives this year – with more news to come on this in the next few days.

“They have gone out of their way this season to help the Foundation, whether it be visiting fans in hospital, walking models down the catwalk at the Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show or coming along to our fundraising events.

“On behalf of everyone they are helping, I would like to thank the squad very much for their charitable spirit and generosity!”
